Spread across approximately <strong>250 square kilometers<\/strong>, it lies within the rugged terrain of the <strong>Mukundra Hills<\/strong>, and is part of the <strong>Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve<\/strong> today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historically, the sanctuary served as the royal hunting grounds for the <strong>Maharajas of Kota<\/strong>. It was declared a protected area in <strong>1955<\/strong>, with the aim of conserving the rich flora and fauna of the region. In 2004, Darrah was merged with other forest areas\u2014<strong>Jawahar Sagar<\/strong> and <strong>Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary<\/strong>\u2014to create the <strong>Mukundra Hills National Park<\/strong>. In <strong>2013<\/strong>, this national park was declared a <strong>tiger reserve<\/strong>, making Darrah a vital part of Rajasthan\u2019s tiger conservation landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Geography and Landscape<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The sanctuary is characterized by <strong>hilly, dry deciduous forest<\/strong> terrain, interspersed with rivers and valleys. The Mukundra and Gagrola ranges pass through the sanctuary, creating narrow valleys and forested ridges.
